Entrepreneur Mark Selby and Masterchef winner Thomasina Miers shared a passion for the food found in Mexico’s colourful markets. Keen to introduce this to the UK, the duo were intimidated by the potentially irrevocable preconceptions created by the Brits’ terrible record in interpreting Mexican cooking.

Eschewing Mexican clichés that dominated the market and therefore making a clean break from preconceptions, BuroCreative created a fluid identity based on typography, colour and imagery from the markets of Oaxaca (wa-ha-ca). Since then we’ve worked on everything from interiors to football kits and Wahaca has become one of London’s most talked about restaurants in recent years.

A bushel of foodie awards testify to the success, including Observer Food Monthly’s “Best affordable eat in the UK”, London Restaurant Festival’s “Discovery” and Zagat’s “Best Mexican in London” 2010. In 2010 they were also inducted as a “CoolBrand” – one of the youngest brands to be included.
